Thrive to Survive Financial Support

Through the support of friends and family, fundraising events, and grants, Thrive to Survive is offering emergency financial support to adults with cancer living in Geneva, Stanley, Waterloo, Seneca Falls, Clifton Springs, Phelps, Dundee, and Penn Yan, NY. Thrive to Survive

Thrive to Survive has monthly General Cancer Support Group meeting at the Geneva Public Library on the first floor Reading Room. This meeting is open and free to adults with cancer, their caregivers, family and friends. The group is a peer to peer group, and as requested we bring in speakers. Anyone interested in learning more about the group, is welcome to attend from 10am - 12pm. The schedule for 2017 is:

  • Saturday, October 7, 2017 - Breakfast meeting RSVP required
  • Saturday, November 4, 2017 - National Family Caregivers Month Painting Party
  • Saturday, December 2, 2017 - Annual Holiday Celebration

Medical Expense Assistance

Patient Advocate Foundation (800-532-5274)

Excellent Resource to find financial assistance! The Patient Advocate Foundation provides patients with arbitration, mediation and negotiation to settle issues with access to care, medical debt and job retention related to their illness. Case managers work with patients, caregivers or their medical personnel free of charge.

Cancer Care (800-813-4673)

Cancer Care offers limited financial assistance for cancer-related costs. Costs may include transportation to and from cancer treatment, home care, child care, pain medication, and chemotherapy or targeted treatment co-payments. The organization is staffed by professional oncology social workers.

Team Continuum (646) 569-5621

Team Continuum provides immediate and vital non-medical assistance to cancer patients and their families. Funding is only available in NY, NJ, CT, MA, NH and RI to patients that demonstrate financial need and are in active treatment. Applications will only be accepted from social workers affiliated with hospitals or treatment facilities in the eligible states. Grants may include payment for a months rent/mortgage, gas cards or grocery cards.

American Cancer Society (800-227-2345)

The American Cancer Society can help find specific resources in your region for day to day living such as rent, utilities and transportation. They also have a health insurance information team that helps people understand their choices to change or purchase new insurance.

HealthWell Foundation (800)675-8416

When health insurance is not enough, HealthWell fills the gap. We assist patients living with chronic and life-altering illnesses in paying their share of prescription drug copayments, deductibles, and health insurance premiums. By reducing this financial stress, the people we serve can focus on what's most important, their health.

21st Century Care (888)850-1622

21st Century C.A.R.E. provides patients immediate financial assistance for incidental expenses related to active cancer treatments. This allows the patient to put their focus where it belongs - on beating the disease. When health insurance is not enough, HealthWell fills the gap. We assist patients living with chronic and life-altering illnesses in paying their share of prescription drug copayments, deductibles, and health insurance premiums. By reducing this financial stress, the people we serve can focus on what's most important -their health.

Travel Assistance

National Patient Travel Center

The National Patient Travel Center aims to ensure that no financially needy patient is denied access to medical evaluation, diagnosis or treatment for lack of long-distance medical transportation. The National Patient Travel Center does not provide financial assistance by itself, but it does link cancer patients to other organizations in the national charitable medical transportation network. The center prefers contact by email.

Corporate Angel Network (914-328-1313)

Corporate Angel Network's mission is to help cancer patients access the best possible treatment for their specific type of cancer by arranging free travel to treatment across the country using empty seats on corporate jets. They offer air travel assistance to any cancer patient and to accredited cancer treatment hospitals.

National Cancer Institute (800-4-CANCER)

The National Cancer Institute provides a search engine for support organizations. This can be used to search over 100 organizations worldwide that provide emotional, practical and financial support for people with cancer and their families. Their list includes camps for children who have parents with cancer, groups that assist with housekeeping, and many other programs.

Housing Assistance

Hope Lodge (800-227-2345)

Hope Lodge is an American Cancer Society organization that offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when undergoing treatment. There is a lodge in Rochester.

Joe's House (877-563-7468)

Joe's House is a nonprofit organization that provides an online nation-wide list of places to stay for cancer patients and their families seeking lodging near treatment centers.

Hospitality Homes (888-595-4678)

Hospitality Homes is a nonprofit organization that provides free short-term housing in volunteer host homes for families and friends of patients receiving medical care in the Boston area. Patients who live more than 50 miles away from their hospital are encouraged to apply.

Finger Lakes Breast Cancer Support Group

This group is made up of women around the Geneva area who have had breast cancer. The group usually has monthly meetings and is very informal. Please contact one of the following members to learn more about the group.

Help SIS

SIS is committed to improving the quality of life of those battling breast cancer. We do this by providing financial assistance, essential services and quality of life enhancements during treatment to those in need.

Embrace Your Sisters

Embrace Your Sisters (EYS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people in the Finger Lakes region (Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates counties) with emergency funds when faced with the diagnosis of breast cancer, allowing our grant recipients to focus on their families and recovery!
